Rome incinerator: two important days of debates and proposals  – To continue Zero Waste Italy efforts in favor of repair and reuse and against the construction of the incinerator in Rome, the association  is organizing together with local associations and committees, two days of meetings and debates on October 2nd and 3rd. The event will take place during a visit to Italy by Paul Connett, Professor Emeritus at St. Lawrence University, New York, and founder of Zero Waste Global Mouvement. The discussions will focus on the latest technical and regulatory updates regarding the impacts of the incinerator, as well as waste management solutions for the upcoming Jubilee, given that the plant is not expected to be completed before 2025.

The waste cycle during the Jubilee

Paul Connett and Rossano Ercolini, president of Zero Waste Italy, will discuss the theme of waste management during the Jubilee and the closing of the waste cycle in Rome, together with Enzo Favoino, coordinator of the Zero Waste Europe scientific committee, and Janek Vähk, Zero Waste Europe office in Brussels.

The right to repair in European directives –One year after the presentation to the Environment Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the petition calling for specific legislation on repair and reuse, Zero Waste Italy relaunches the right to repair in view of the International Day of Repair on 19 October 2024 with Paul Connett, Rossano Ercolini, Danilo Boni and Laura Lo Presti. First training for ZW School staff 

Viareggio 9 October – There will be a meeting at the ‘M. Polo Viani’ school to celebrate the adoption of the ‘Zero Waste School Protocol’ and for the first training of all school staff (headmaster, teachers, administrative staff and cleaners) with an expected audience of over 100 people. This meeting is also part of the ERIC project with a focus on single-use plastics and reuse practices’.

The First Citizens’ Science Festival  

Capannori, 11 and 12 October at the Capannori Science Park, “Ambiente e futuro per Rifiuti Zero”, Zero Waste Italy, The ZW Mediterranean Academy and the ZW Mediterranean Network organize the “First Citizen Science Festival” toexplore together the environmental challenges of our time: plastic in the seas, repair and reuse, land protection and much more. Citizens’ demonstration in Tuscany

Pontedera, 26 October – A demonstration of citizens’ committees against asbestos, keu, incinerators and military bases will take place in Pontedera, in the province of Pisa. The trial on the illegal disposal of sludge from leather processing in the Santa Croce tanneries is due to resume soon: the poisonous keu used as fertiliser in the fields and under the asphalt of roads throughout Tuscany.

Presentations of Rossano Ercolini’s book

Rossano Ercolini, president of Zero Waste Europe continues the presentations of his latest book ‘Noi siamo oceano. Manifesto per un’ecologia del cambiamento‘ published by Baldini + Castoldi. In the book, the author describes reflections and anecdotes, taking the reader inside a different, yet real Italy: where good practices, shared knowledge, and the many successful experiences show how, despite the great awareness of the risk we are facing, it is possible to get active, collaborate and imagine a different future.
